On the 4th of August the Redbacks hosted the second round of the 2021 “Corona AFLG” against the Rheinland Lions. Both teams brought into the field 15-17 player each and they agreed to play 10v10, bringing more playing options and flexibility into the game.
It was a very physical game and Köln made the difference showing their greater fitness. Both teams fought hard for the ball with a lot of contests in the midfield, followed by quick possession changes between them.
The final Score was 6.10 (46) to 11.14 (80). This result brings the Redbacks into the obligatory position to win the next two games if they want to reach the finals this year…
We want to thank the field umpires Ioanna Kopasaki and Matthias Kaiser for the consistent job.
Highlights:
After an unlucky start of the game for the Redbacks, the Rheinland Lions had an early 3 goals lead. Then Matthias “The King in the North” Klusemann brought some fresh air back to the team by scoring the first of his 4 goals in the game. After this point the team fired up pressing harder for the ball with a great performance of the midfielders Jason Edwards, Andrew Molloy and Xavier Cramer using their great speed and tackling skills.
In the second and third quarters the boys got closer to the Lions, with Constantin Pixa dominating in the ruck and Gerard Forelli bringing down some players with his great tackles. As well Stephen “Big Ben” Williams showed a great performance in the forward line in his first game with the Redbacks. Jose Martinez had the chance to play some minutes, after his injury in the last game. Welcome back Jose!!
But in the fourth quarter the Lions stopped the comeback for the Redbacks showing good ball control and better fitness level to win the game. Cheers to the Köln Lads for their great commitment on and off the Field!!! We can´t wait to play against you again!
