The Redbacks women’s first game of the season included a trip to Cologne to play Rheinland Lions. Krista from Stuttgart came to support the 7 Redbacks, who made their way to the ground on the unusually warm saturday morning.
Substitute coach Basti was to guide the women through the game. Whiteboard in hand, he discussed the plan for the game. Already in the warm up proved the weather to be a problem.
The Lions played particularly strong from the beginning and managed to open up a lead on the scoreboard quite quickly. However, the Redbacks could see this and were calculating how to combat the Lions’ tactics. A quick discussion at quarter time increased the motivation. The second half went by more successfully and 2 goals were scored- one by Krista, and the other by Lisa.
After the half-time break, a behind from Elly quickly started the third quarter. The ladies were pushing themselves, but were struggling to cope with the weather as the sun got stronger. In the 4th quarter, despite some great tackles in the defensive end, Rheinland were able to increase their lead. The Redbacks pushed until the end, but it wasn’t the result they had hoped for.
The final score was 80:14 to Rheinland. Thanks again to Krista for coming up to Cologne to help out and for scoring!
