For the last game of the season, the Redback’s womens travelled to Stuttgart along with the men. Since Hamburg withdrew from the league at the beginning of the season, only the game against Stuttgart/Heidelberg took place. It was decided that a full length game would be played, but that the first 2 quarters would remain the official game.
Due to injuries and holidays, only 5 Redbacks made it to Stuttgart. Kat, who would usually play for Hamburg, came to help out. 2 further loan players from Stuttgart allowed 7 vs 7 with 1 substitute. Andrew took over coaching duties on the 30 plus degrees game day.
The first quarter allowed the ladies to relax into the play. After some behinds, it was clear that a lot of the play would be in the offensive end. Following a goal from Kat, another two quickly followed from Liv TW. Stuttgart/Heidelberg then scored their first goal; the heat and sun were beginning to take their toll. The first quarter time break allowed for rehydration and some changing of positions.
At the beginning of the second quarter, some great tackles from Lila stopped Stuttgart/Heidelberg from getting some more goals. Quick thinking from Kat allowed for Liv TW to score her third goal of the game. As the opposing team were getting tired, quick play from the centre to the forward line let Amelia score the last goal of the official game.
For the 3rd and 4th quarters, which were a friendly match, the teams were completely mixed up and 2x 10 minutes was played. The weather had zapped the energy from everyone but fun was had by all.
It was great to end the season with a win and we would like to thank all the ladies who have played throughout the season for their great effort.
Final Score (official game): Redbacks 35 – 5 Stuttgart/Heidelberg
